Description & Services
Information | Kids Run Club is a free, recreational, school-based running program designed to give children and youth an opportunity to be active through running. This award-winning program has been partnering with Nova Scotia schools since 2004 to helps more than 16,000 kids embrace active, healthy living annually. The majority of Kids Run Clubs are in elementary schools but the program can be adapted for all ages, abilities, fitness levels and group sizes. The goal of Kids Run Club is to give children and youth a chance to be active and learn about healthy lifestyles. Kids Run Club keeps the fun in running by focusing on individual goals and improvement, teaching participants about proper technique and pacing, and how to balance the challenge of running with taking breaks so that all experience success. Kids Run Club can be implemented as an extra-curricular program, within curriculum/class-time and by community groups. Leadership: Kids Run Club coaches include teachers, other school staff, parents, community leaders and youth leaders. Expertise in running is not a pre-requisite, but enthusiasm and a passion for active living are. The kids in this program need a champion – someone to make sure they are safe and having fun! If you’re a teacher looking to expand your curriculum, Kids Run Club is just what you need! If you’re a parent interested in becoming more involved in your kid’s school, Kids Run Club is the opportunity you’ve been searching for! Check out www.kidsrunclub.ca to learn more about the program, register your school/group or connect with our team to explore the possibility of joining the Club! A special version of Kids Run Club is available for junior and senior high schools that includes tools for creating a welcoming and safe program, suitable for all students, regardless of their gender-identity or expression. Contact Kids Run Club for more information. COVID-19 Response and updates: Kids Run Club continues to provide online resources including the newly released KRC Let's Move/Sois Actif, a bilingual resource to help teachers get their students moving during classroom or at-home learning. The resource includes KRC Let’s Move movement break five-minute videos that showcase 12 Nova Scotian locations and cultural landmarks. Take students on an illustrated journey across the province as Kids Run Club’s Coach Leah leads them through a series of fun movements. These videos are suitable for all elementary-aged students and account for limited time and space as well as wearing masks when necessary. Other online resources include KRC at Home, the Healthy Living Challenge, and our Let's Keep Moving workout videos which can be found on the Kids Run Club YouTube channel.
