Description & Services
Information | Born into a family that has fished the Northumberland Strait for three generations, Carolyn Vienneau grew up with a love for the sea and the fishing boats that sail it. She incorporates the characteristics of the sea into her paintings. Her energetic brush strokes, her play with colour and contrast, and her use of opposites—calm and turbulent, rough and smooth textures—engage the viewer. It is probably for this reason that Carolyn and her art were chosen to depict the fisheries and the old-world traditions of her hometown in the TV series Sketches of our Town, produced by veteran broadcaster Harvey Kirck. When she began to study painting seriously in the late 1970s, Carolyn received instruction and attended many weekend and summer design workshops. In the process, she studied under and learned from accomplished art teachers such as Jeannie Edmonds Hancock, Tom MacKay, and Joy Laking. Although their influence is reflected in Carolyn•s work, she developed her own style and considers herself a self-taught artist. Carolyn experiments in various art media, but prefers oil and watercolour. Carolyn•s paintings are found in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, and as far away as Australia. She is also an innovative instructor and has most recently added art therapy to her repertoire. Carolyn•s art is available at her home studio, at the Pictou Weekend Market and at various galleries and shops around Nova Scotia. |
