Information |
As a fully volunteer fire department, we depend on the citizens of the fire protection district for their feedback and comments to help us give them better service during time's of need. We constantly train to better ourselves and the services we provide. The average number of hours that members contribute is 120 hours per year. We offer the medical first response to our residents as some of the areas we service are classed as remote areas and we have been on scene approximately 20 to 30 minutes before the ambulance. We provide vehicle extrication during motor vehicle crashes. We have one of the oldest junior programs (since 1981) in the province with half of the officers and many of the current firefighters having come through the junior program. We respond to an average of 225 emergency calls per year. 40-50% are medical in nature, 35% are motor vehicle crashes and mutual aids to other fire departments, the rest are fire related. The fire protection area that we cover is over 480 square kilometers, around 2000 homes and 5000 people. We are always looking for the residents to join and become part of an elite team, 25% of our fire fighting force is women. You are not required to have some form of training before you join, we will provide the training to perform the task required. There is a job for everyone to do, not everyone is an interior fire attack firefighter. We have a medical membership for those interested in that field, they respond to medical emergencies and provide rehabilitation to others on large scale emergencies. |
