Description & Services
Information | The Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia Celebrating 100 years of service! We are one branch of two in the District of Lunenburg. The branches meet together twice a year to have group discussions, review ongoing projects, listen to special speakers, and enjoy one another's company. Some of our ongoing projects include, preemie hats, cancer turbans, finger puppets for children who need blood work, mastectomy breast cushions, Alzheimer's comfort bears, toe socks for those who are in casts and quilts to the homeless. We support our local 4-H groups, schools, fire departments, food banks, neighborhood watch programs, reach out to the elderly, sick and shut-ins in our communities and lend a helping hand whenever we can assist someone in need. Host a free chowder luncheon for Seniors in our community, operation Christmas child, collect eye glasses for developing countries, Newfoundland relief fund, Days for girls International project. One of our upcoming projects is reflective arm bands for grade 5 students in our district. We reach out to the needs of people of all ages in our communities, province and world wide! Mandate: The Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia continue to provide opportunities to enhance the quality of life, through education and personal development, allowing us to meet the changing needs of our local and global communities. Vision: "Learning, sharing and improving the quality of life for all." Motto: "For Home and Country" These four words outline the purpose of the organization. "Home" is the first priority, assisting women to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to meet the demands of home, family and work. "Country" starts with the community of which the organization forms a part, and extends throughout the nation and into the international field. |
