Information Lake canoeing skills are designed to introduce paddlers to the activity of canoeing.  
The Paddle Canada National Program emphasizes boat control and teaching the skills and knowledge to be safe and have fun while on the water.  
Take a couple hours or the better part of a day to try something new, or brush up on old skills.  
We are pleased to welcome Darlene Ricker, a certified canoe instructor with Paddle Canada, to our department. 
Beginner Canoeing Skills - Beginner canoeing skills will be taught through Paddle Canada’s “Waterfront Program”.  
It is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary for beachfront, with two people in the canoe. Successful participants are considered beginner tandem waterfront canoeists capable of performing basic strokes to maneuver the canoe for short distances. Safety, understanding limitations, and fun are the emphasis. 
No prerequisites. Equipment and canoes provided or bring your own.  
Please let us know if you plan to bring your own canoe and equipment. 
Program Overview: Safety and rescue theory; practical (canoe carries, how to sit or kneel, basic paddling skills and strokes); knowledge of canoe and paddle parts, additional resources. 
Ladies Evening (must be over 18) 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tentatively Wednesday, June 11 (rain date June 12) $55 pp 
Family Evening (children must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult) 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tentatively Wednesday, June 18 (rain date June 19) $70 per family. Fancy Lake Provincial Park, Conquerall Mills Road  
Canoeing Basic Skills - The aim is to introduce novice participants to paddling with a partner in sheltered, calm waters. 
Skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation for paddling close to shore on sheltered bodies of water. Rescue options are discussed and can be demonstrated by the instructor.  
The successful candidate is considered a beginner tandem lake canoeist, with knowledge of land and waterbased rescues.  
No prerequisites. 
Program Overview: Safety and rescue theory and practical; paddling skills (strokes and 
maneuvers); knowledge (canoe and paddle terminology, personal outfitting, lifts and carries, safe practices, resources and etiquette). Paddlers should finish the course empowered and motivated to continue learning and aware of their individual limitations. 
Equipment and canoes provided or bring your own.
