Description & Services

Information The Chester Municipal Heritage Society was established in 1981 to promote and cultivate awareness of the unique heritage of the Municipality of the District of Chester for the enjoyment and benefit of present and future generations through the preservation of historically significant properties and the delivery of educational programming. 
 
Lordly House Museum, a Georgian style home c 1806, showcases our municipal heritage. The park surrounding Lordly House and a children’s playground are maintained by the society for community use.  
 
Maple Cottage, the first municipal office for the municipality, is the society's research site. We collect genealogical and historical information relevant to the municipality and provide wi-fi access for the public. 
 
We are open to the public June through September and through the winter months by appointment. 
 
The Chester Train Station, owned by the society, houses “The Oak Island Display," Artisan’s Gallery and the local Visitor Information Centre. “The Forman Hawboldt Exhibit” and a walking labyrinth are located adjacent to the station. A farmer's market is held on Fridays during the summer months. The Chester Connection Trail passes beside the station.
