Description & Services

Information The Valley Gardeners Club has been involved in the community, through meetings and workshops, since its inception in 1983,.

This involvement in the community is integral to the spirit of the Club and is reflected in the Objectives contained in the Memorandum of Association: to encourage interest in all kinds of recreational gardening and to promote better horticultural practices; to encourage the conservation of natural resources; and to provide a medium for the exchange of gardening ideas.

In April 1984, the Club joined the Nova Scotia Association of Garden Clubs which encouraged members to interact with other garden clubs in the Province through meetings and conventions. This, among other things, enabled participation in Provincial activities, contests, borrowing from a slide/video library and group insurance coverage.

Many other varied activities, designed to promote gardening in the community and to stimulate interest and enjoyment among members, have been presented by the Club. These have ranged from workshops for beginner gardeners to clinics to address specific problems; from planning and planting at community locations, to recognizing efforts of individual businesses to beautify their properties; from demonstrations on flower arranging to talks on landscaping.

Regular activities include:

A public Plant Sale, held in May or June annually. This is our most important fund-raiser. The Club relies on the money raised to support our Philanthropic activities.

A Members’ Gardens Tour in the summer.

September Pot Luck dinner
Before the September meeting we enjoy a supper with food supplied by members.

Annual General Meeting
Our AGM, held in November, takes the form of a banquet with reports, election of officers, presentation of awards and a speaker.
Dates All Year.
Meetings 2nd Mon, monthly
7:30 pm, Rooms 2101 & 2102, NSCC Kingstec
In the summer months, meetings are held at other venues.
