Description & Services

Information Who can join the Western Kings 4-H club ?
-You can join as a member if you are between 8 and 21 years old; or
-You can join as an adult volunteer leader if you can help guide members to complete projects. You must go through a screening process that includes such things as police check.

Why join as a member ?
-To make new friends.
-To learn how to do cool things like crafts, raising dairy cows, cake decorating, raising sheep, photography, scrapbooking, dog obedience, raising sheep and so many more life skills and livestock projects.
-To have a blast creating food preparation or how-to demonstrations.
-To watch and learn how to run meetings.
-To discover the pleasure of judging projects and animals.

Why join as a leader ?
-To share your passions and inspire tomorrow's young leader to be productive members of their community.

How much does it cost ?
-The leaders who guide you through the projects are all volunteers. The only cost is the stuff you need to buy to do the projects. For example buying the icing bags and tips to do cake decorating. You don't need to buy a cow to do the dairy cow project. There are farmers that will gladly "lend" you a cow at their barn for the duration of your project.

Is 4-H competitive?
4-H is awesome because it is both competitive and non-competitive. To progress, all you have to do is your personal best. It's up to you to decide if you want to be competitive and be compared to others. For every activity (projects, demos/speeches, judging) you get some feedback on what you did. Those who do really well and are interested can go and compete against members of other Kings County clubs and other Nova Scotia clubs.
