Information
PAHLS mission is to promote recreational activities in Paradise that encourage an active healthy lifestyle among residents.

Background and History:

PAHLS was officially formed in 2008, but its roots go back several years earlier. PAHLS began as a group of concerned citizens of Paradise who objected to the use of the abandoned rail corridor through their village by motorized vehicles, and has evolved into a very positive organization which encourages its residents to live a more active and healthy lifestyle at all ages of development.

The strategic direction and goals included in this plan are PAHLS’ response to its understanding of what the residents of Paradise, Nova Scotia value most about the organization and current opportunities and challenges for offering a system of support in the Community for active healthy lifestyle choices.

The three year period of this plan will be a time of assessing and deepening PAHLS approaches to its work in the Community.

Concurrently, PAHLS will take more of a leadership role in working with a broader array of Community and provincial resources and will explore actively engaging more volunteers.

With a fresh perspective on its mission, understanding what it does well, and the environment in which it operates, PAHLS will pursue the following strategic direction:

1. PAHLS will review and assess Community needs to identify gaps or needed shifts in recreational services. This assessment will serve as the basis for expanding or adding new classes or activities.

2. PAHLS will take a leadership role in working with a range of providers to identify and meet the needs of all age groups.

3. PAHLS will emphasize building its financial resources to invest in its largest project, the building of an active transportation trail through Paradise, Nova Scotia.

4. PAHLS will continue to seek out and obtain grant funding from any and all sources so that it may continue to provide active recreation choices to Community members of all ages at greatly reduced rates.
