The Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department is located in the beautiful town of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. Set in the Annapolis Valley, Bridgetown is framed by the north and south mountain range. These mountain ranges are part of the Appalachians and once were volcanic. This volcanic activity created a nutrient rich soil ideal for farming and agriculture, one of the main industries in the area today. The BVFD protects 640 square KM of the Annapolis Valley which includes approximately 4500 people in over 1600 homes, businesses, churches and schools. We respond to an average of 85 emergency calls a year. These calls can include structural fires, wildland fires and motor vehicle collisions. We provide mutual aid to neighboring departments when requested and respond to medical emergencies when requested by Emergency health services. The Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department is made up of 40, active, 100% volunteer, members. These members are on call 24/7, 365 days a year, leaving their workplace, school and families at all hours of the day and night to help out their fellow citizen. Our members' age can vary from 18 - 65, no matter the age there is always a job to be done. Members come from a variety of backgrounds; from office workers, contractors and small business owners to mechanics, students and trades persons. |
