Description & Services

Information

The Association (AANS) was formed in 1967 and is the provincial sport organization governing archery in all its forms in the province of Nova Scotia.

Purpose: To perpetuate, foster and direct the practice of archery in all its forms through: encouraging membership, adopting, interpreting, and endorsing the rules for practicing.

Today's sport of archery has roots that are thousands of years old and in many cultures around the world. In olden days the bow was firstly a tool for harvesting game for food and secondly a weapon of war that resulted in the winning of many battles. As the bow became impracticable as a weapon, archery became a sport enjoyed by the rich, usually Lords and Kings.

In some cultures, the bow is still used today as a tool for harvesting food.

The sport continues to grow in popularity and is now active in over 100 countries in the world!!

Due to the popularity of the sport, archers can now compete in events such as the Olympics, the World Championships, and many other international, national and provincial events, including 3-D archery.

The Archers Association of Nova Scotia has 22 member clubs throughout Nova Scotia.

We have individual, family and club memberships. All members are also members of Archery Canada.
