Information | The Mission of Maggie's Place is to strengthen and enhance the health and social development of children and their families, in Cumberland and Colchester Counties. By providing a variety of promotion and prevention services and programs, their aim is to support families through the preconception, prenatal, infant, early childhood and youth periods with an emphasis on the ages 0-6 early childhood period. They strive to strengthen partnerships and collaborative activities among families, service providers, communities and governments. Some of the programs and gatherings they offer include: Parent and Tot Playgroups Playgroups typically include playtime, a craft, a snack and circle time with games, songs and stories. Caregivers, parents, toddlers and infants are all welcome. There is no need to register, and there is no charge. More details regarding locations and times can be found here. Parenting Groups Parenting Journey: This is a community based family support program which promotes optimal growth of children and youth through purposeful, goal-based home visitation. Serving Colchester County families with children ages 3-16 years who are facing a variety of behavioural, social, school and environmental challenges. You Make the Difference: This is a 9 week Parent-Child Interaction Program that gives parents the skills they need to play a major role in the child’s development. YMTD enriches parent-child interaction to promote children’s social, language and early literacy skills. The program is for parents with children ages 6 months to 4 years and children must accompany their parents to this program. Alphabet Soup: This is a 6-week program for parents/caregivers and children over the age of two. The focus us on healthy eating experiences through books, rhymes, songs and preparation of healthy snacks together. Alphabet Soup in Motion: Based on the Bookmates’ award- winning ‘Alphabet Soup’ program, with the added twist of physical activity. The program is for parents and children over the age of two and includes active play, reading, rhymes, songs and healthy snacks. Child and Youth Programs Babysitting Course: The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course teaches youth how to handle emergencies with confidence by providing basic first aid skills, and tips on how to cope with common problems. There is no charge. Kids in the Kitchen: This is a two day cooking and nutrition class offered in July and August. Prenatal/Postnatal Programs Full Bellies Prenatal Nutrition Program: This is a 10 week program for families eligible for extra support, where nutritious, low-cost meals are prepared. This program also explores ways to take good care of yourself and your baby before and after birth. Free food and vitamin supplements with an opportunity to receive a free car seat. Infant Massage: This is a four session program and learn ways to soothe and further bond with your infant through massage and touch. For ages 2-9 months and their caregivers. Baby, Me & Mother Goose: This is a 10 week program, running from September to December, January to March or April to June, where caretakers learn rhymes, songs and have fun with their baby (3 months to under 18 months).
