Description & Services

Information The intention of the Colchester Art Acquisition is to continue a collection of visual art which reflects the historic and artistic development of the county and its artists, recognizing the importance of the culture community within the county and the province. Each year, the Municipality of the County of Colchester is proud to host an Art Show featuring various pieces from local artists. During each show, a work of art is selected by a committee to be purchased by the Municipality to expand the Colchester's collection. The chosen selection is added to the permanent public display on the main floor of the County Courthouse and the artists’ biography is added to a book which displays the history of the program. The Annual Art Show, open to the public, is cohosted by the Municipality of Colchester and the Truro Arts Society. Selection Process The Art Show Provides artists with the opportunity to display a maximum of three works of art for the Selection Committee and general public. Selection of Art Piece After acquainting themselves with the County's Art Collection, the Selection Committee then views the submissions and makes a decision. Announcement A formal announcement of the selection is made at a reception held by the Municipality for the artists, Selection Committee, County Council and media. Purchase Arrangement As part of the purchase arrangement, the artist whose work is chosen will be asked to serve on the Selection Committee for the following year. Criteria for Selection The selection committee takes each of the following into consideration when selecting a piece: Quality Art Good composition, technical competence, presentation (in terms of preservation) and the relevance of the style and development of the artist.
