The Town created the Shelburne Port Committee to give guidance to Council regarding the terminal and related activities. The Shelburne Port Committee is currently chaired by the Mayor of the Town of Shelburne with membership made up of one additional councillor from the Town of Shelburne, one councillor from the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, five members from the public that live in the Town of Shelburne, the Port Manager and the Town of Shelburne CAO. The Chair of the Board is Mayor Harold Locke (to Oct 2024). The day-to-day management of this Town-owned asset is provided by the Port Manager, Wayne Langthorne. The Town of Shelburne currently provides the necessary administrative support for the Port’s activities including billing, leases, etc. The Shelburne Marine Terminal (SMT) is located within Shelburne Harbour along the southwest shores of Nova Scotia. Shelburne Harbour, Nova Scotia, is the third best natural harbour in the world (following Havana, Cuba and Sydney, Australia). The channel, called Eastern Way, leading to the entrance of the Shelburne Harbour, is 800 meters wide with a minimum depth of 9 meters through its narrows. The Shelburne Harbour has safe anchorages for vessels in 13 meters of water. The port is ice free and no pilot is required to enter the harbour. |
